Barry Sonnenfeld Will Show Us How To Save The World
Barry Sonnenfeld, the director of Men in Black and Get Shorty and producer of Pushing Daisies and Enchanted, has signed on to produce and direct The How-To Guide For Saving The World. Written by BenDavid Grabinski (yup his first name is two first names squished into one name), the script popped up on the 2008 Black List and revolves around an instruction manual for saving the world from alien invasion that’s left behind by a secret organization after they are wiped out. The film will be an action-comedy, and Sonnenfeld describes it thus:
Unfortunately, a non-action-hero guy not unlike me, in terms of manliness, and a woman who hates him find the book and have to save the planet from an impending attack.
Sounds like fun to me. I really like the vision he brought to Pushing Daisies, and he’s shown he can do films in this vein with Men in Black. Fun fact: before he began working full-time as a producer/director, Sonnenfeld was a cinematographer, shooting films for the Coen brothers and Rob Reiner. Neat, huh?
