MTV caught up with J.K. Simmons at Sundance and heard from the actor that Spider-Man 4 will begin shooting in 2010. Simmons, who plays Daily Bugle editor J. Jonah Jameson, talked with director Sam Raimi at his Christmas party, and apparently that’s good enough to serve as official word for now. It does make a bit of sense, since Sony was reportedly eyeing a 2011 release. Let’s see if any announcement from the studio or Raimi’s people comes out in the next couple of weeks.

And in other news, the Emily Blunt-starring The Girl is going into production. David Riker wrote the script and will direct as well. The story revolves around “a young Texan (Blunt) who is thrown into an unexpected and life changing journey with a young Mexican girl.” Riker made a splash back in 1998 with La Ciudad (The City), but has been more less quiet since then.
