Rottentomatoes has the trailer for the upcoming Gigantic up, starring Paul Dano, Zooey Deschanel, John Goodman, Ed Asner, and Jane Alexander.

Or, catch it below:

You can also check out the poster from when we reported on it a couple weeks ago here. Aside from being in love with the cast, I gotta say that this is looking like it could be lots of fun. Guess we’ll see when Gigantic goes into limited release on April 3, 2009.

  • Zooey's been playing that character for ages, but I feel like 500 Days has been the first time she's felt real since, appropriately enough, 2003's All The Real Girls, and not just a caricature that was overtly written by a man.
  • I just watched Gigantic after falling in love with Zooey from 500 Days... I love my weird quirky indie flicks, but Gigantic just left me with a wtf? type of feeling...

Agreed. No one does manic-pixie dream-girl quite like Zooey (see: above, or here: http://cinemaverytasty.com/2009/01/17/500-days-of-summer-trailer-looks-kinda-emo-but-totally-awesome/).

And I believe Paul Dano is about four years younger than Zooey, and in my mind I think that age dynamic works well here.

Oh gosh this looks so good! Can I say that I have secretly pondered over Paul Dano since I saw him in Little Miss Sunshine? He isn't textbook good-looking but there is definitely something appealing there. I always imagined him to be younger than Zooey Deschanel, probably because of the characters they have both played in the past. But from the trailer it looks like they could be possibly be a good match.

Yep. It looks real good. Funny, without the scripted Juno-esque quips. What I would call blunt innocence, a-la "do you want to have sex me" dialogue, works better with Zooey Deschanel. It's in her eyes.
