Joe Wright Prepares For An Indian Summer
Atonement director Joe Wright has lined up an adaptation of Indian Summer to be his next project.
Based on the book by Alex Von Tunzelmann, the film follows the last days of the British colonial empire in India. The story centers on Britain’s Lord Mountbatten, who is sent with his wife Edwina in the summer of 1947 to oversee the handover of power to Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first prime minister.
No one has been cast yet. Gladiator and Elizabeth: The Golden Age writer William Nicholson will pen the screenplay.
The film would be Wright’s next project after The Soloist, which hits theaters April 24 ,2009. Wright has said he wanted to make Indian Summer because it was “primarily about the British experience,” whereas The Soloist was about two Americans that took place in Los Angeles.
