Casting Bites: Three Join London Boulevard, Jenkins Will Eat, Pray, Love
William Monahan’s crime drama just got three shiny new pieces. Ray Winstone, David Thewlis, and Anna Friel have joined the The Departed scribe’s directorial debut, which will begin shooting this summer in London. The story revolves around a freshly paroled criminal (Farrell) who becomes involved with a reclusive young actress (Knightley). Winstone will play a crime boss, Thewlis the reclusive actress’ agoraphobic business manager, and Friel (who is partners with Thewlis in real-life) the criminal’s sister. Monahan, who also wrote the script, is quietly putting together an impressive cast — let’s hope the material is just as good.
Oscar-nominee Richard Jenkins continues his renaissance, now signing on to join Julia Roberts in Eat, Pray, Love, an adaptation of the best-selling Elizabeth Gilbert memoir.Nip/Tuck creator Ryan Murphy wrote and will direct the movie. The story centers on a woman (Roberts) who realizes she’s unfulfilled by a seemingly happy life, and, after a painful divorce, embarks on a rejuvenating journey of self-discovery around the world. Jenkins will play a Texas man with a haunted past who she meets in an Indian ashram. Jenkins is having a good year thus far, currently filming a role in the Hunter S. Thompson flick The Rum Diary with Johnny Depp and playing a part in Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard’s Cabin in the Woods later this year. The man’s really racking up a spectrum of genres, eh?
