Monica Bellucci Adds Her Magic To THE SORCERER’S APPRENTICE
Monica Bellucci has joined the cast of Jon Turtletaub’s The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, which is currently shooting in New York. Along with the announcement comes some more hints about the story of Disney’s live-action re-imagining of their popular animated short from 1940’s Fantasia. Bellucci will play Veronica, a sorceress and long-lost love of Nicolas Cage’s character, Balthazar Blake. The film centers on Blake’s efforts to train a young protege (Jay Baruchel) to help battle the forces of evil in modern-day Manhattan.
The production has had some unfortunate mishaps of late, including a stunt involving a Ferrari that went terribly wrong and a separate car crash that occurred just a couple days later that injured nine people. Hopefully things are back on track and no more accidents mar the shoot. Alfred Molina, Teresa Palmer, and Toby Kebbell also star. Jerry Bruckheimer is producing the flick, which is scheduled for a July 10, 2010 release.
