USA Today has posted 5 new images from the Hughes Brothers’ post-apocalyptic thriller, The Book of Eli, starring Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman, Mila Kunis, Ray Stevenson, Jennifer Beals, and Michael Gambon. The first still is from early on in the film, where Washinton’s character comes to a crossroads and chooses the path that heads into town (run by Oldman’s Carnegie) to refill his cantene and, believe or not, recharge his iPod. That seems pretty silly and trivial a detail to me, especially as a motivation for the decision that presumably kicks off the events of the movie.

Anyway, Washington reportedly lost 55 pounds for the role (shedding all of the extra weight he gained while editing The Great Debaters and visible in The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3). Makes sense, as all the desolation you see in these photos probably implies a much more meager diet for the film’s characters.
