Quick Hits & Snack Bits For 6/17/09
It’s time for another jam-packed edition of QH&SB!
To kick things off, Chris Nolan’s Inception apparently has a $200 million budget. So much for a small movie between blockbusters.
Platinum Dunes’ planned remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds has been tabled for now, because the producers just found out that birds poop, peck, poke, and… that’s about it.
In more Wanted 2 semi-news, director Timur Bekmambetov said he’s going to bring back Angelina Jolie for the sequel. People who’ve seen the first film may be wondering how this will work. The answer? A little thing called Hollywood magic.
821 Entertainment will bring Roy Rogers back to the big screen. The iconic children’s hero and “King of Cowboys” will be revived in a trilogy of films that will not be a biopic or traditional Western, but rather a family fantasy adventure.
Robert Rodriguez’s Machete starring Danny Trejo is set to begin filming in five weeks [Gordon and the Whale].
Picture break! Check out Gemma Arterton as Io in Louis Leterrier’s Clash of the Titans remake (courtesy of Gemma Online):
And some more Robin Hood set photos, including Russell Crowe driving a jeep (with Scott Grimes as Will Scarlet riding shotgun, Kevin Durand as Little John grinning it up in back, and an unfortunately obscured fourth passenger – possibly Alan Doyle as Alan-a-Dayle)! Just Jared has a few more:
And back to other news: Greg Kinnear and Kelly Preston will play Miley Cyrus’ parents in The Last Song, the upcoming adaptation of Nicolas Sparks’ forthcoming novel.
Bloody Disguting reports that the live action adaptation of Akira being planned by Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way and Warner Bros. is now “dead as a doornail.” Ruairi Robinson, who was to make his directorial debut on the project, has left the project.
World War Z, the adaptation of the very fine Max Brooks novel about the war against the zombie apocalypse, has also hit a speed bump. Marc Forster is set to direct, but it looks like he’s going to be working on the thriller Disconnect first. No word on when he’ll get around to World War Z. [from Migros Magazine via CHUD]
The Weather Man and Pursuit of Happyness screenwriter Steve Conrad has been hired to write the latest draft of the The Karate Kid remake, which is being produced by Will Smith and will star his son Jaden.
Liz Meriwether, one quarter of Hollywood’s “Fempire,” has sold her script Honey Pot to Paramount. Meriwether describes the film as what happens “when a bunch of hot, funny women get their Bourne on.” Sounds awesome to me. [via Cinematical]
Check out this creepy-cool poster for Cold Souls, exclusive from Cinematical. The trippy film stars Paul Giamatti as an actor named Paul Giamatti who “decides he wants to put some of his soul in storage in order to help better tackle a new role.” It’s definitely got elements of Being John Malkovich in it, and co-stars Emily Watson and David Straithairn:
SNL comedian Jason Sudeikis joins Gerald Butler and Jennifer Aniston in Bounty Hunters as Aniston’s misled work-friend who, thinking Aniston’s character is his boyfriend, goes chasing after her when she skips out on bail. Butler plays the bounty hunter hired to track her down, but he also happens to be her ex-husband.
And to end on a nice picture note, SpoilerTV some more set photos from The Sorceror’s Apprentice, giving us our first look at Monica Bellucci as Veronica, a sorceress and long-lost love of Nicolas Cage’s:
