Apple has released the trailer for Steven Soderbergh’s wacky corporate whistleblowing tale The Informant!. Based on the true story of the highest-ranking corporate whistleblower in U.S. history, the film casts Matt Damon as Mark Whitacre, the vice president of an agri-business giant suspected of price-fixing. Whitacre becomes a gung-ho informant to the FBI, eagerly agreeing to wear a wire and carry a hidden tape recorder as he fashions himself a secret agent of sorts. His ever-changing account of what’s what within the scandal, however, frustrates his government handlers to no end and potentially jeopardizes the case. Check out the trailer below:

The Informant! is slated to hit theaters in a limited run in September before going wide on October 9, 2009.
