The FANTASTIC MR. FOX Trailer Is Here!

Yahoo! has the new trailer for Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr. Fox. For those who haven’t been keeping up with the stills, the film is a stop-motion animated adaptation of Roald Dahl’s book of the same name. And as was hinted at by those stills, the look of the film is indeed very animatronic-y. While we didn’t want to make any judgments on the film based solely on a few pictures, we’ve now seen it in action. And you know what? I still don’t know what to think.

On the one hand, the look hearkens back to similarly animated flicks from the 70’s and really projects a classic vibe rich with nostalgia. The heightened sense of artificiality magically works. On the other, some scenes look terribly flat and kind of cheap. It’s an odd feeling, to receive such grossly different reactions from the same footage, but that’s the impression I got from the trailer. I think what will ultimately save the day is the voice-acting and story. So far, those aspects of the film appear to be pretty spectacular, so I’m going to remain cautiously optimistic about this one.

Fantastic Mr. Fox stars the voice talents of George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Jason Schwartzman, Bill Murray, Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody, Willem Dafoe, and whole bunch of others. It will make its world premiere at the London Film Festival in October before debuting stateside on November 13, 2009. Watch the trailer above, or in HD over at Yahoo!
