THE VAMPIRE’S ASSISTANT Gets A Trailer

Hot on the heels of the first teaser poster, The Vampire’s Assistant now has a full trailer as well. Check it out below, or head over to Moviefone to catch it in HD:

Based on the popular series of books by Darren Shan, The Vampire’s Assistant follows normal, boring 16 year old Darren, whose normal, boring life is interrupted when he and a friend stumble upon a traveling freak show. Something awakens within Darren, and he soons find himself apprenticed to the vampire Larten Crepsley as he becomes a member of the Cirque Du Freak. Unbeknownst to Darren, however, is that he has inadvertantly broken the uneasy 200-year-old truce between two warring factions of vampires, and now it is up to him to fulfill his destiny from a place drawn by nightmares.

Chris Massoglia stars as Darren and John C. Reilly as Larten, with a decidedly pubescent-looking Josh Hutcherson playing Darren’s friend Steve. The Paul Weitz-directed film looks to have some gorgeous visuals and production design, and just might be a lot of fun. Weitz has also recruited a surprising number of names for his band of sideshow freaks, including Ken Watanabe, Salma Hayek, Ray Stevenson, Jane Krakowski, Patrick Fugit, Orlando Jones, and Willem Dafoe. Of course, big names in a fantasy epic don’t always translate to a successful movie (see: Eragon), but I remain optimistic.

The Vampire’s Assistant comes to theaters on October 23, 2009.
