ALICE IN WONDERLAND Gets Another Trailer! by Ryan on 16 Dec 2009 | Comments

Disney has released another trailer for Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. We get a much better look at the lush world Burton has fashioned this time around, but it comes at you pretty quickly so don’t blink or you’ll miss it. The trailer is set to debut in 3D in front of Avatar this weekend, but you can already get a sense of what elements will be popping off the screen.

I wasn’t as excited as I had hoped I would be for this movie after the initial teaser trailer, but this new trailer reveals enough to get me genuinely amped to see Burton’s madness unfold. Depp’s Mad Hatter looks delightfully insane, and Helena Bonham Carter’s bobble-headed Red Queen is an excellent mix of menacing and ridiculous. I’ve been hoping to see Mia Wasikowska speak more than a couple of brief lines, but no dice here. Guess I’ll just have to wait for the movie to come out in March.

SPIDER-MAN 4 Casting Rumors: John Malkovich as Vulture, Anne Hathaway as… Vultress?? by Roy on 8 Dec 2009 | Comments Movie blogs and fan sites alike have been trying to figure out for some time now just which villain Spidey will be facing in Spider-Man 4. Well, the internets was set abuzz today with some very interesting casting rumors. According to the good folks over at Movieline who unearthed this exclusive, their sources have two intriguing names circling the project.

The first is John Malkovich, who Sam Raimi likes for the part of Adrian Toomes, aka Spider-Man’s elderly nemesis The Vulture. If you’re unfamiliar with the comics, the Vulture is a highly intelligent criminal who invents a flying harness that not only allows him the ability to fly, but grants him superhuman strength and agility. As for the casting, I think Malkovich would be spot-on for the role. Not only is he usually terrific in his villain roles, but it’s been too long since we’ve seen him in the over-the-top, sadistic baddie roles like Cyrus the Virus in 1997’s Con Air.

The next bit of casting is where things get kind of weird. Out of a crop of actresses that have included the likes of Julia Stiles, Rachel McAdams, and Romola Garai, Anne Hathaway is rumored to have emerged as the favorite for Felicia Hardy, which we’ve heard before and is a decision I have no qualms with at all. However, Movieline’s report claims that while she would play Hardy, the character herself isn’t destined to be the Black Cat anymore. Instead, the script has her becoming a brand new supervillain called the Vultress.

QH&SB 10/23/09: GHOST IN THE SHELL, Channing Tatum, Gerard Butler, & More! by Ryan on 23 Oct 2009 | Comments

Ready for more portion-controlled goodness in this week’s Quick Hits & Snack Bits? Read on to find out who will be directing Monster Squad and The Tourist; casting news for Bruce Willis, Channing Tatum, and Gerard Butler; new projects for Billy Ray and Cary Fukunaga; updates on Ghost in the Shell; a helluva early-developing rumor involving Leonardo DiCaprio, plus a whole bunch more!

First up is Monster Squad, the long-in-gestation supernatural comedy that is NOT a remake of the much beloved 1987 film from Fred Dekker and Shane Black. This one’s brand new, and if you’re wondering what it’s about, so are we. Brian Lynch first wrote the spec about an international coalition of kids who battle monsters under the bed (then titled Nightcrawlers), but Michael Arndt later retooled it to feature a neurotic father who had to face childhood demons. Brian Copeland has written the latest draft, but the new logline is being kept under wraps. One thing we do know is that Shrek Forever After director Mike Mitchell has been tapped as the new director. [via Variety]
