MTV's got a new trailer up for Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes, and it's got quips a-plenty, action in every frame, and style to boot.

Come to think of it, the Sherlock Holmes trailers that we've seen have been a bit of a mess plot-wise; that is, I still don't have a very clear idea of just what the plot is. Mark Strong's some sort of nefarious, perhaps supernatural villain, and Holmes and Watson are on the case? Anyway, they're definitely selling chemistry and style more than anything else, especially between Robert Downey, Jr.'s Holmes and Jude Law's Watson. And you know what? It's enough. It totally works, and I'm ready to get to the theater just to see the two play off of each other.

The trailer finally gives Rachel McAdams something to do, though I still feel like her presence in the movie is being undersold here. Her dry delivery towards the end is one of the best moments in the trailer, and I think she'll be just as integral a piece to Sherlock Holmes' entertainment and success as all the bare-knuckle brawls and one-liners.

Three teaser posters for Drew Goddard and Joss Whedon's The Cabin in the Woods; Rachel McAdams finally gets her own character poster for Sherlock Holmes.

Want some terrible advice? Then check out the three new teaser posters for Drew Goddard and Joss Whedon’s The Cabin in the Woods. In case you didn’t already know, the flick is supposed to be a new spin on the horror genre (with some at one time even calling it the “horror film to end all horror films”). If these posters are any indication of what to expect from the film itself, we’ll be getting a hyper-aware horror flick with the narrative sensibilities of Whedon and Goddard. In my book, that’s definitely worth checking out.

And after Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law got theirs, Rachel McAdams is finally getting her own character banner for Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes. Dangerously alluring? I think so.

A British version of Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes trailer has arrived online.

A British version of the Sherlock Holmes trailer is now online. It’s fairly similar to the American version that landed a while back, but it does give us some more Holmes-Watson shenanigans to chew on. Check it out below:

Guy Ritchie’s unique take on the film definitely will be fun and a little crazy, if nothing else. I do wish we’d get to see more of how Rachel McAdams’ character ties into the story (or, you know, just a line or two), but I guess we’ll have to settle for her sassy antics with that cad Robert Downey, Jr. for now. This is certainly shaping up to be one of the must-see’s of the year. If only Christmas would come sooner!

Sherlock Holmes hits theaters on December 25, 2009.

I do! And it's pretty fantastic.

Warner Brothers has released the trailer for Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes, and it’s all sorts of fun.

The action-comedy romp is on full display here, with the obvious Ritchie touch. Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law play off each other wonderfully and to often hilarious effect here, and what little we see of McAdams in the trailer does seem to hint at quite a, ah, formidable foil. Mark Strong looks deliciously evil, and it looks like we’re going to be in for a swashbuckling adventure here. Maybe not exactly what people have in mind when they think Sherlock Holmes, but exciting nonetheless. Check out the trailer below (or catch it on Yahoo in HD):

Check out some stills from Guy Ritchie's upcoming flick!

USA Today has 10 stills from Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes, which stars Robert Downey, Jr., Jude Law, Rachel McAdams, and Mark Strong. A couple of them are old, but the majority show off new stuff we haven’t seen yet. I don’t really know what to expect from this one, despite all that’s been said about it already (a bromance between Holmes and Watson, a bit of a departure from the Holmes general audiences might expect, etc.). From these stills, we can at least tell that the period of the film has been captured really well. I’m still not sure what to make of the tone or direction of it, though, so we’ll just have to wait for the trailer — which unspools in front of Terminator Salvation in a couple of weeks — to make a judgment about the movie.

In the meantime, check out a few of the stills below, and head on over to USA Today to see the rest.

ShoWest brings our first look at Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes.

Ever since I heard Guy Ritchie was doing Sherlock Holmes, I wasn’t sure what to expect from such a movie. Would he Ritchie it up, or would it be more in line with a traditional blockbuster period piece? Once Robert Downey, Jr., Jude Law, and Rachel McAdams joined the cast, I really didn’t know what to think; I just knew I wanted to see what that movie looked like. Now someone has.

The first footage of Sherlock Holmes was shown off at Warner Bros.’ ShoWest presentation and Latino Review has a write-up for it. The gist? Lots of humor, lots of action, Ritchie’s influence is definitely noticeable, and some funny accents. Here’s what El Guapo had to say:

The only sort of plot was the bad guy saying in a voiceover to Holmes that, “Tomorrow, at midday, the world as you know it, will end.” The next scene showed Downey as Holmes saying, “Well, there isn’t anytime to waste then, is there?”

A lot of action footage was shown, from Holmes jumping out a third story or so window into the river below (Thames) and shots of Holmes in a bare knuckle fist fight reminiscent of Tom Cruise’s fights in Far and Away. Some of the punches were in slow motion kind of like 300. We didn’t see Jude Law as Watson until halfway in the footage, when Sherlock wanted to find someone that would compliment his skills. “Holmes, does your depravity know no bounds?” “No.” is also exchanged in the footage shown, along with Holmes saying, “Watson, what have you done?”

We see shots of Rachel McAdams, Robert Downey Jr.’s love interest in the film, who knocks him down in one scene , and he wakes up later handcuffed naked to a bed. The last scene shows a maid walking into the room and screaming at the site of a naked Holmes handcuffed to the bed with only a pillow to cover him up. Holmes then says, “Madam, I need you to remain calm and act like a professional. Take this pillow as the key to my release.” It was a pretty funny scene.

There were also shots of Holmes picking a lock until Watson just kicks the door in, a scene where he has a hammer but is up against an enormous man wielding a giant sledgehammer. Holmes throws the hammer at the guy’s chest and it bounces off with no effect.

Group photo! Check out Jude Law, Robert Downey, Jr., and Rachel McAdams in a newly released still from Sherlock Holmes.

USA Today has debuted a new image from Guy Ritchie’s re-imagining of Sherlock Holmes in an article with Robert Downey, Jr. and his thoughts on his Oscar buzz.

The still gives us a look at Jude Law as a dashing Watson, Bob Downey as a more brawny but still brainy Sherlock, and Rachel McAdams as the deceptive Irene Adler.

On his Academy Award nomination, Downey says, “Irony is synonymous with pretty much everything that is going on.” And in terms of his success in big commerical movies like Iron Man and Tropic Thunder (for which he is nominated) as opposed to the smaller projects that were his bread and butter early in his career: “The trend is turning back to commercial films that are actually, more often than not, where the quality happens.”

It’s good to see the dark horse make it. And I love the look and cast of Holmes so far, so let’s hope Ritchie can turn in a helluva re-telling of the classic detective stories.

Sherlock Holmes wraps principal photography this week in Brookyln.

Some hints about what direction the flick starring Robert Downey, Jr., Jude Law, and Rachel McAdams will take.

The New York Times had a chance to visit the set of Sherlock Holmes and ask the producers about the upcoming adaptation of Arthur Conan Doyle’s iconic character. What they found out is rather…surprising. Seems the new direction they were taking the detective in didn’t just mean more of a rough edge, but rather involves quite a departure from the Sherlock Holmes most would recognize. Instead of a charmingly-spoken detective, we get a rough brawler with a fierce mind and fast life. And throw out traditional murder mysteries–it looks like we’re getting spirits of dead occultists to tangle with (because apparently, that’s what big mainstream audiences demand).

All of this now has me nervous about the film, but there’s still enough talent involved that I can hold out hope that regardless of what kind of a Sherlock they give us, it can still be a very cool and very well-crafted one. Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes opens on November 13, 2009.

Robert Downey, Jr. packs a six-pack in one of two new pictures from Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes.

In true Guy Ritchie-fashion, we’re getting plenty of abs in the upcoming Sherlock Holmes film. Robert Downey, Jr. shows off his in one of two exclusive pics that IESB has posted. No telling how this fits into the story, though fans of the books will remember that Holmes was, among other things, a boxer. Looks like he might have gotten himself into a bit of a scrap in this picture. Head on over to IESB to see the full image and another of Downey, Jr. whispering to Jude Law’s Watson.
