Disney has released another trailer for Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. We get a much better look at the lush world Burton has fashioned this time around, but it comes at you pretty quickly so don’t blink or you’ll miss it. The trailer is set to debut in 3D in front of Avatar this weekend, but you can already get a sense of what elements will be popping off the screen.
I wasn’t as excited as I had hoped I would be for this movie after the initial teaser trailer, but this new trailer reveals enough to get me genuinely amped to see Burton’s madness unfold. Depp’s Mad Hatter looks delightfully insane, and Helena Bonham Carter’s bobble-headed Red Queen is an excellent mix of menacing and ridiculous. I’ve been hoping to see Mia Wasikowska speak more than a couple of brief lines, but no dice here. Guess I’ll just have to wait for the movie to come out in March.

Well, according to Variety’s BFDealMemo, Johnny Depp is in talks to step in for the departed Avatar star and among the directorS (emphasis on S) that are circling the project is none other than Alfonso Cuaron. As passively interested as I had become about this remake to the 2005 French thriller Anthony Zimmer, I’m suddenly extremely intrigued by a possible Cuaron project with Depp and Jolie playing the leads. I mean, c’mon! Who doesn’t want to see two stars of that caliber collide in an action thriller from the guy who gave us Children of fucking Men?

We’ve already gotten a hint of the eye-popping visuals to expect from Imaginarium with the U.K. trailer that was released a couple of months ago, and the domestic trailer certainly reinforces that. The early word out of festivals has been that this is a return to form for Gilliam, with many of the themes from the director’s early, best works reasserting themselves here. Personally, I think it looks like Gilliam just let his imagination run wild here, and I can’t wait to see what he’s got in store for us this time.
