One of the indie films starting to gain a little bit of buzz as we head toward awards season is Lee Toland Krieger’s The Vicious Kind. Starring Adam Scott, Brittany Snow, Alex Frost, and J.K. Simmons, the story follows an irreverent and love-scorned man (Scott) as he spends a Thanksgiving weekend with his estranged father, brother, and brother’s new girlfriend. Executive produced by Neil LaBute, the film has recently scored two Independent Spirit Award nominations, one for Best Male Lead (Scott) and one for Best Screenplay (Krieger).
The tremendously talented Scott looks to be brandishing his customary dry wit, but also appears to be flexing his not-inconsiderate dramatic chops as well. I’m a fan of Scott’s, and it’s his performance that has me most interested in this film. To be fair, the rest of the cast also looks quite impressive, and the bevy of goodwill the film seems to be gathering doesn’t hurt, either. The well-cut trailer certainly has me excited to see this movie.
